I love to go to movies. But I hate when I go to a movie, spend the money (sometimes a LOT of money) and the movie ends up being really bad. I know there are places where I can read reviews and find out of a movie is reported to be good or not, but it is hard to really know based on critic reviews, because I totally disagree with critics on several of my favorite movies.

So, to help out those of you like me, I decided to review movies that I see here on my blog. Hopefully it will help you if you are trying to decide to see one or not. I will try to get some responses from Matt too (who usually goes to the movie with me J) and give you more than one point of view.

On New Year’s Day we went and saw Invictus. There were a lot of movies to choose from that I wanted to see, but we decided to go to this one because Matt likes Morgan Freeman. I hadn’t heard much about this movie prior to going in, other than it was about the South African Rugby team and something about Nelson Mandela.

I liked the movie and would recommend it. It is funny to me that this movie is set in 1995, OK, I was alive and pretty aware of things when I was 15, but I don’t remember knowing or caring anything about what was going on in South Africa. So this was a little history lesson for me too. It was a good old sports movie, though the actual rugby players could have been more inspiring. They didn’t do as much with the team as they could have to make the movie really a good old sports movie, but maybe that is because it was based on a true story and they didn’t want to mess it up too much.

The movie made me smile, and I was entertained. That is what a movie is supposed to do. So I would say go ahead and see this one if you want to. You probably won’t be disappointed.

Oh – and for those of you that were wondering (Troy) Invictus is the name of a poem.

Thanks for doing the research on the title meaning.

We liked Sherlock Holmes by the way. Did you end up seeing that? We also liked Avatar (along with everyone else that I know) Sorry I didn't return and report....
