The next day we just took it slow. I remember waking up and looking out my window. The sun was rising behind the palm trees. Beautiful – then I went back to sleep.
Once I got up it was a slow morning of reading and lounging and watching the kids play. My Dad, who is way better than I am, went for a jog. The kids played in the water behind our house. I read, and played. Chrystie went snorkeling down our inlet to where it meets the ocean. While she was gone we all played in the water and just had fun.
She got back and announced that she saw a lot of jellyfish on the bottom of the inlet. Uh Oh! Yep, they were the silly little jellyfish that look like grass (I should have taken a picture, sorry). They just sit there, in the grass and wait for someone to come along and try to enjoy some cool water and they get you. I remembered that my Dad had jumped into the water after his jog and went fairly deep. I wasn’t surprised to find him with jellyfish stings on his feet. No fun at all. They were not serious, just annoying.
Matt and I were excited to go snorkeling, we loaded on our gear and got into the water. But we didn’t get far when Matt put his hand on the ground and at least 10 jellyfish jumped off the ground and floated around in the water. I decided that there had to be better snorkeling on the island, and we got out. I didn’t want to mess with the jellyfish this early in my trip.
After a little more playing around the house (and eating lunch) Matt and I decided we wanted to go over to Rum Point and snorkel. Val and my parents came too. It was much more crowded than it had been the evening before. Boats were everywhere, and there were lots of people. But we were able to find some beach chairs together to put our stuff on and then we went out into the water. The snorkeling didn’t start out amazing. It took us a while to find some fish. But with a little swimming, and going farther out away from the beach we found some coral, and with the coral some fish. It was great! We took a little underwater camera with us on the trip and Matt and I took turns using it to record the fish under water. It was great, but you can get seasick watching the movies play back.
We had a great time. We snorkeled, then came back and relaxed and swam, and then went out again. The water was perfect, the fish were amazing, it was so much fun! Time flies when you are having fun, and before we knew it the sun was getting low in the sky. We packed up and went back to the house. We had dinner and relaxed. Some of us played cards out on the screened in porch until late, then went to bed.
