Michael Buble

My cute husband got together with the other men in my family and arranged to give me and the girls (my mom and sisters) tickets to the Michael Buble concert. I was excited at the time, but the concert wasn’t until the end of March, so I pinned the tickets to my bulletin board and forgot about them. But then – before I knew it – it was the end of March! Time for the concert!

I looked at the tickets, for probably the first time and realized the concert was on a Wednesday, and didn’t start until 8. I knew that was going to leave me tired on Thursday, but that didn’t matter, I was going to a concert! So much fun!

The concert was at the E-Center in West Valley. I hurried home after work and met my mom at her house. It was snowing, so we traded cars and took the Jeep to my sister Chrystie’s house. We picked her up and then headed out to the venue.

I received an email prior to the concert warning me that it was sold out and that they recommended people show up more than an hour early if they wanted a place to park. We heeded this advice and parked our car about 6:30 for the 8:00 show. The next step was to find somewhere to eat.

We started the trek down the restaurant street just like all the other groups of people attending the concert. First stop, Ruby Tuesdays. 45 minute wait, but we put our name on the list. Next stop, Applebee’s, also a 45 minute wait. Next stop, the sports bar, there we would have had to wait until someone decided to leave. None of us liked that idea so we wandered back to Ruby Tuesdays and waited our turn. My sister Val met us at this time. She lives in Salt Lake, so she didn’t want to car pool in. We found a place out of the snow to wait for our turn to eat. It was the strangest thing I have ever seen at a restaurant. Probably 3 out of 4 names called for tables were not there. I would guess it took about half an hour from the time we put our name in until we found our table. Then it was time for yummy food (I didn’t realize how hungry I was until we were sitting there waiting for our waitress). My short review on dinner is that the food was good, but the service was, well, not really there. (All I need to be happy with my server is to not have an empty Diet Coke for half my meal. Oh well).

We finished eating just before 8 and walked over to the concert. Getting in and finding our seats was super easy. We probably missed one or two of the opening groups songs, so not bad timing. I really enjoyed the opening act. They were called Naturally 7, and they were an acapella group that simulated their own instrument sounds. They were funny and talented, and I enjoyed them. (look them up if you want, they were really good).

There was a short break between the opening act and the main show. This was a good time, I thought, to take a quick bathroom break. Unfortunately, everyone else thought the same thing. You can guess the ratio of women to men at this concert was not conducive to having a short line at the women’s bathroom. I grudgingly got in the back of the line when I heard a West Valley police officer nearby telling everyone that there was another bathroom down the hall a ways. He was told that the other bathroom was behind the barricade and that the usher wouldn’t let them past. The officer turned to go investigate the situation. I had a good feeling about that and told Chrystie to “follow that guy”. We fell in line behind him, along with 3 or 4 other women from the line. He marched us to the gate and asked the usher if the bathroom on the other side was out of order. When the usher replied it was working just fine the officer pushed the gate out of the way and gave us access to a bathroom with no wait! I must say that was one of my favorite parts of the night. It was my first ever police escort to the restroom.

We made it back to our seats with plenty of time before the main concert started. I was pretty excited when it did start, but not as excited as the girl a few rows back from us that couldn’t stop screaming (it was like he was Elvis). The concert was great. It was way more high budget than the last time I saw him in concert (2006 or so at Abravanel Hall). There were video screens and fireworks and all sorts of good stuff. Michael Buble did a good job of not just singing songs from his new CD, but of mixing it up well and singing some of his older stuff and standards as well as mixing in some newer stuff, and stuff I have never heard before. It was a really good concert, and I think we all had a great time.

Then it was time to go home. The concert ended about 10:30 or so, and we moved to our car. Then we stayed in our car, in the parking lot, for another hour or so! There was no order and no one was moving. We were stuck. Finally my mom found a line that was moving and we made our way out and home.

I didn’t get home until after midnight, (which is late for me on a weekday) but we had so much fun. Thanks Matt and the guys for giving us a Great Christmas present!
