The Gutter

There is only one way out of the street I live on, and that is to go trough the gutter. Now, this gutter would be a respectable dip any day, but lately it has become an almost insurmountable obstacle to driving to and from my house. With all the snows that we have had recently - and there have been a lot - our roads have raised about 6 inches. Because we are this sort of dead end nowhere street, we don't get plowed. Instead my neighbors and I have just driven over the several feet of snow we have received and packed it down into 6 thick inches of ice. This would not be a problem if the gutter also had risen 6 inches, but it hasn't. Thanks to the few warm days we have had, the water in the gutter has melted and flown down to the drain, thus, we have a Grand Canyon to get over every day. It is like a very bad and much less fun version of Disneyland's Indiana Jones ride every time we go over it. Matt's little Subaru can barely make it, and it think it scrapes off a new layer of essential car parts every time my little car tries to make the run. The other day my car rocked so much I actually smashed my head into the side of my car. Yep, it hurt. I look forward to spring, but I fear with the thickness of our ice, we will be able to skate on our road until July - if we can get through the gutter.
