Viva Las Vegas

We had had enough with reality and decided it was time to take a vacation. Luckily for us Matt's Dad called and started to tell us that he had just closed on his condo in Mesquite. Well - we thought - we would be horrible children if we didn't go to visit his new condo and see what it was all about. So, with what seemed to me like a very spontaneous act (even though we had it pretty much figured out on Wednesday and didn't leave to Friday - I usually plan things weeks in advance) we were off to Mesquite.

We left rather late on Friday night, stopping first to get some dinner. We ran into Matt's uncle Greg at the Wendy's and had a good time talking to him before we set off on the long trip. Because we left so late, most of the trip was done in the dark. I will tell you that there is not much to see once the sun has gone down. We plugged in my ipod and listened to some music. Then we listened to Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. I have heard it before, but Matt hasn't (and we are not done so don't tell him the ending).

So at about midnight Utah time we rolled into glorious Mesquite Nevada. Matt did a good job finding his Dad's house. We got there, and I will admit I didn't waste much time on pleasantries before I was asleep.

The next morning we took it easy. Matt's Dad has his condo on a golf course, with a pond right behind his unit, so we were able to go out there and watch the families of geese and some ducks and turtles and even a Heron. It was like an aviary right in his back yard. Matt's Dad treated us to breakfast at the Oasis ($3 baby!) and we ate and ate and ate! Then we went on a tour of Mesquite, that was fun too. The weather was great and I loved just riding around in the car with the windows down.

Later that day, when Matt's Dad had to go to work, Matt and I drove down to Las Vegas. We parked at the Bellagio and just walked up and down the Strip. It has changed a little since the last time I was there. They did turn the Treasure Island show (you know, the fun one where they sink the pirate ship) into a girly show. I was sad about that. Also, I don't think I have been there on a weekend for a long time. So it seemed really crowded. But that was made up for by the great weather. We had a good time wandering around and watching people. To top off the evening we watched the Bellagio Fountains.

On Sunday we slept in and took our time. We went out for a Sunday Champagne Brunch. Again I ate more than knew I physically could! But it was good. We went back to Matt's Dad's condo and watched the birds and just relaxed until he had to go to work. I tried to get some sun my legs, but I am still pasty white! Then we began the long drive home. But we made it safe and it was fun.

Sounds like you guys had fun! I haven't been to Vegas forever! Maybe one of these years we will make it back down there.
