The rest of the Disneyland trip was fun. We did go back to the park on Sunday – probably too soon after the race. I fell full asleep on the Pirates of the Caribbean and decided it was time to go back to the room for a nap. We did get back to the park later that evening and had time to catch the fireworks show. I wasn’t feeling up to standing for an hour to wait for the show to start, so we caught another ride and watched the fireworks from in front of the Small World. I loved the part of the show they projected onto the Small World building, and the fireworks were good. It was a shorter show than it has been for a while. They do have a flying Dumbo that goes on the same wires as Tinkerbell, but we couldn’t see him from where we were standing.
Monday was less crowded at the park. All of us were still a little stiff walking around, but we were at Disneyland and we were not going to let some sore muscles get the best of us. Monday night we decided to finally watch FANTASMIC! We scooted in for the 10:30 show, finding places as people left after the fireworks. Matt, Val and I guarded our spots as Mom and Dad went to get our celebratory funnel cakes with brownies (my reward for completing the half marathon). We had to stay strong and guard the spots since people were filling
in constantly. But they made it back in time for the show to start. We were excited about this because it was the first time we were going to see it with the new dragon “Murphy”. They also had a new Crocodile following Captain Hook and they added Flotsam and Jetsam during the Ursala part of the show (where there hasn’t been anything for a while). Those parts were cool, and as the time approached for the new dragon, we were all very excited.
We may, however, have had unfortunate seats. We were between two of the fountains, so even when the screens were up, we were able to see the island. So when the dragon is making her grand appearance, we could see the silhouette coming up. She was still new enough that the crowd cheered when the eyes lit up. It was pretty cool. I am torn on how I feel about the change. I mean, the new dragon is cool. I guess it is the biggest animatronic creature in the park, but it wasn’t as big as the old one. The neck and head moved, and she shot fire out of her mouth, which was really cool. I guess it will just take some getting used to. I can appreciate that it is a cool piece of technology, but the old one was just BIGGER and, maybe, it was just the one I was used to.

Tuesday was going home day. We played at the park as long as we could than took the drive out to Long Beach airport. The flight home was pretty unremarkable, and before I knew it we were back to reality.

The old dragon was more the suggestion of a dragon, or the idea of a dragon. It was big, it was, dark, and it moved and swayed a lot. It was dramatic. Murphy is definitely prettier, but they sacrificed movement for a realistic shape. It still moves, but not much, and it breathes fire. Wow! Y'all will have to go see him/her and decide which is/was better.
ohhh, I LOVED the old dragon. I liked how it was, I hate change. I will check out the new one (someday)...
