I was so excited to go to a concert last night. My sisters were both going to come with, but Chrystie’s baby was born (congrats!) at 4:05, so she wasn’t going to make it. Matt graciously offered to take her ticket. He was down at the University all day having taken the train that morning, so I drove in the rain down to Salt Lake. After a quick trip around to see that all the nice free spots were taken I parked at the Gateway. I pulled in and there was a girl handing out tickets that asked if I was going to the concert. Why yes, I am. So I prepaid for the night wondering if they did that for every concert at the Depot. It seemed a little odd. It also seemed odd that there were 8 tour buses and about 20 semi trucks parked just outside the gateway. I was sure that the band I was going to wasn’t going to need that kind of equipment.
I met Matt at the Barnes and Noble and Val was on her way to the Gateway for dinner. I thought since it was a rainy Tuesday that we would be able to get a quick table at a restaurant, but the wait was an hour to an hour and a half, so we walked to the food court and had Taco Time (I love the veggie burrito).
As we scanned the crowd in the food court I had a suspicion that it was filled entirely with girls. And girls that were dressed a little too Tarty for everyday life. It began to make sense when Matt told me he overheard that there was a Brittany Spears concert at the ESA. Oh! That is why there were so many buses – and – Oh! That is the concert the girl at the gate was taking about.
My friend Lindsay came to the concert too. She got there before us and found a table near the front where we could congregate. It was nice to see her! It has been a long time since I did anything with her. Funny how time goes so quickly and you don’t realize how long it has been since you have seen someone.
Anyway, the concert started on time (which always makes me happy). We were a little slow and misses probably 2 songs from the opening band. They did alright. It was a group I had never heard of (and I can’t remember their name now either). I began to notice that this was probably the first concert I have been at in a long time where I didn’t feel like the oldest or most un-cool person in the venue! It was great.
The concert was a lot of fun. They did most of the songs that I knew and some from their new album (Which I lost at my house somewhere. I am looking for it still.) It was a really fun concert and I realized that I really enjoyed the concert even when though they didn’t have 5 tour buses and 12 semi trucks - just some flashing lights and a strong roadie to hold the speakers up.
On a side note – I am so happy for my sister. Her baby was born on April 14th at 4:05pm. I am so excited to meet little Cora Briony Zaugg.

Okay, I am about to go to YouTube and see if I can find Travis. That's how technologically cool I am, and how totally out of the music scene I am at the same time. Glad you had fun.
