Hey - Where is the Rain?

My work sent me to a conference in Seattle last week. I did a lot and had a lot of fun. It is going to be hard for me to keep this post short, but I will do my best.

Matt and I decided to make the most of it by going up the Friday before and spending time with his family in Sequim. (I know, I didn't know where it was either. That is why I included a map!)

We arrived in Seattle on Friday night and Aunt Paulette picked us up at the airport (such service) and drove us to their home in Sequim. We stayed there the entire weekend and had a lot of fun. I was finally able to meet Uncle Frank - I had heard a lot about him. They were great and took us all over the place. We went down the spit and made zen towers with rocks, we went to the Olympic Game Farm and I was able to find out first hand what buffalo breath smells like. We also went hiking up in the Olympic National Park. We went out of Frank's boat and had some nice meals, and some not-so-nice ones (Matt had the worst Alfredo I have ever experienced). The weather was great for us, a little cloudy and windy, but not a drop of rain all weekend. There was still a lot of snow up in the mountains. We were able to hike through some of it on Sunday. I had fun watching everyone else play a game of Risk. (They were kind enough to not make me play. Any of you that have tried to play board games with me know that I am not good at not taking them WAY too seriously. It was best that I didn't jump over the table and attack anyone on this trip.) On Monday we drove into Seattle to check into my hotel. We went over on the Ferry - which was cool for me. We went to the Public Market and Matt bought me some beautiful flowers (which I kept in my hotel room all week - awwwww). The Helms had to return home so they dropped us off and Matt and I did the Underground Tour. It was pretty cool. I didn't know they did things like build a city on a city, but it was kind of fun.

Matt had to leave Tuesday, and my conference started, so we didn't' see much of each other. Matt went off and did the tourist stuff while I was in class and then came home. I was busy in classes most of the week after that. I did a few things - and just walked around the city a lot. They let us out of the conference early on Thursday. My friend Dave from work and I wandered around the city. We went to the Space Needle (and yes I paid the outrageous amount to go to the top). Then we took the monorail back to downtown and walked down to the aquarium. That was fun too. It was a pretty good aquarium, with a lot of - well - fish. But still, pretty cool. That night the conference sponsored a harbor cruise, so I went on that. It was fun. We went really far out into the sound and when we came back the lights in the City were all on. My camera battery died so I didn't really get any good photos, but it was beautiful.

Our classes lasted until 5 on Friday, so I didn't get to fly home until Saturday. I took advantage of Friday night to go the the Seattle Art Museum. They were doing a special exhibit on Impressionism, so I figured it was worth the cost of admission. I had a good time. I still have trouble understanding some modern and contemporary art (I will admit to that) but I enjoyed myself none the less.

Finally it was Saturday and I got to go home. I had a great time in Seattle, and it is a beautiful city. It was between 70 and 80 the entire week with bright blue sky (except the night of our harbor cruise of course). I didn't see a drop of rain.
